Description
Pelia moss botanically known as Monosolenium tenerum, is a liverwort that forms a dense, cushion-like mat with flat, fork-like fronds resembling tiny green pancakes or stag antlers bottom-dwelling fish.
Appearance & Growth
Thallus:
Pelia moss has a green, lobed structure called a thallus, which divides into fork-like branches.
Growth Habit:
It forms a soft, dense mat or cushion, providing a lush, natural look in aquariums.
Colour:
It displays a rich, potent green colour.
Aquarium Care & Maintenance
Light: Prefers low to moderate light; high intensity can lead to excessive algae growth.
Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 68-78°F (20-26°C).
Water Parameters: Can tolerate a wide range of pH levels, from acidic to alkaline.
CO2: While not essential, CO2 supplementation can improve growth and prevent it from becoming stringy in submerged environments.
Maintenance: It is low-maintenance, but periodic trimming is recommended to control its growth.
Placement & Versatility
Sinking:
Unlike some other mosses, Pelia is heavier than water and sinks to the bottom of the aquarium.
Attachment:
It can be attached to rocks, driftwood, or other hardscape elements using nylon string or superglue.
