Description
Red Cherry Shrimp are small, peaceful, freshwater invertebrates known for their vibrant red colour and easy-to-care-for nature, making them ideal for beginners.
Physical Features
Size: Approximately 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5-3.8 cm) long, with females reaching the larger end of the spectrum.
Coloration:
Vibrant red bodies, which can vary in intensity and even appear pinkish or translucent on lower grades.
Body Structure:
Elongated and flexible, with a segmented abdomen, a head (carapace), eyes, antennae for sensing, and five pairs of legs for walking and feeding.
Exoskeleton:
They have an external skeleton that they shed (molt) as they grow.
Female Traits:
Females are larger, have a deeper red colour, and carry their developing eggs in a “golden saddle” pattern behind their heads.
